TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Visitors at Bali Safari Park in Gianyar gathered for a unique evening experience on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. They lined up to board modified trucks, enclosed by iron bars, ready for a nocturnal journey into the wild. This "Night Safari" offers an alternative adventure from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., allowing guests to encounter animals that are most active after dark.
The dimly lit journey takes passengers through various animal habitats. A tour guide provides commentary and instructions through the vehicle's speaker. "Please do not touch the animals for safety," the guide advised, also reminding guests to refrain from using camera flashes.
Encountering Diverse Wildlife
The safari's first inhabitants are the lions. The guide introduced two female lions, nine-year-old Anggun and 15-year-old Calista, as well as a more reclusive male in the distance. The guide explained that lions are not always active, especially after a full meal.
"If they eat too much, they can sleep for about 20 hours a day. So, we are lucky to see them awake," he remarked.
The journey then continued to the zebra zone, where officers distributed carrots to visitors. The zebras, attracted by the food, eagerly approached the vehicle.
A similar feeding opportunity occurred in the African red buffalo zone, where guests could observe the unique horns of these animals. The guide explained that their horns are not just for protection but are connected to blood vessels, helping to regulate their body temperature.
Next, the tour introduced visitors to a group of camels. With vegetables in hand, guests offered the camels a treat.
The adventure's highlight was the Bengal tiger zone, where a 17-year-old tiger named Rafli climbed onto the vehicle, a familiar behavior for him. The guide explained that Rafli and his companions are also given raw chicken by the officers.
Two giraffes, a mother and her calf, awaited visitors in the next section. The guide noted that despite their similar size, they are a mother and child. The calf, born five years ago, was named Corona in recognition of the pandemic's timing.
The safari concluded with a visit to the Sumatran elephants, a species that is smaller than their counterparts in other regions. The guide pointed out that only male Sumatran elephants possess long tusks, while females have shorter ones.
The entire Night Safari journey lasts approximately 20 minutes, offering a new perspective on these animals in their nocturnal environment.
