TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto indirectly criticized a regent who left his area during the disaster in Sumatra. Prabowo did not mention who the regent was. He only said that the regent was disloyal to the people.
"Except maybe here and there, there are regents, maybe yes, one person, who I think is less loyal to the people. In critical times, leaving the place with all sorts of reasons," said Prabowo during the full Cabinet meeting at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, on Monday, December 15, 2025.
The head of state thanked all central and regional government elements who had helped in handling the Sumatra disaster. Prabowo felt that they had worked hard. "I am grateful to have brothers and sisters who have worked hard so that the people are grateful to me," he said.
Mirwan MS, the Regent of South Aceh, is the regent who reportedly left his area during the disaster. He performed umrah when the Sumatra disaster occurred. The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, imposed a three-month suspension on traveling abroad without permission when his area was hit by floods and landslides. The decision took effect on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
"The concerned person is subject to an administrative sanction in the form of a temporary suspension for three months because of violating Article 76 paragraph 1 letter i, traveling abroad without permission from the Minister," said Tito in a press conference at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
During the suspension, Deputy Regent Baital Mukaddis was appointed as the acting Regent of South Aceh. Tito said that Mirwan was required to undergo an internship at the Ministry of Home Affairs as part of his development. "In three months, (he will) come back and forth to the Ministry of Home Affairs for an internship. We will nurture him again," he said.
Mirwan MS apologized for his action of going abroad without permission when his area was hit by floods and landslides. He admitted that his action had caused anxiety and disappointment among the public.
