PPATK: Online Gambling Transactions Record 80% Drop in Q1 of 2025

6 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) reported that online gambling transactions in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to Rp47 trillion, as conveyed by agency head  Ivan Yustiavandana during the Risk-Based Mentoring Program in Jakarta on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

According to him, the transaction value of online gambling dropped by 80 percent compared to the same period in the first quarter of 2024. "The transaction value, which previously reached Rp90 trillion from January to March 2024, has now sharply dropped to Rp47 trillion," said Ivan in a written statement quoted on Friday, May 9, 2025.

Ivan is optimistic that the online gambling transaction will be smaller in 2025 if the downward trend continues throughout the year. "If this trend continues, we estimate that the total transactions throughout 2025 can be reduced to below 160 million transactions," he said.

According to Ivan, the drop in online gambling transaction value can be attributed to the role of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) in its efforts to prevent and tackle online gambling crimes.

"The blocking of more than 1.3 million content by Komdigi shows extraordinary commitment in closing access to massive illegal networks," said Ivan.

Previously, the ministry had blocked around 1.3 million content related to online gambling since the new administration assumed office on October 20 last year.  The Komdigi Minister, Meutya Hafid, stated that the figure consists of 1,192,000 gambling sites and 12,000 contents on social media.

"These figures reflect a real threat in the digital space that disrupts national security and order," said Meutya in a written statement quoted on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

Meutya stated that a massive surge in harmful content such as online gambling and child sexual abuse materials in Indonesia's digital space continues to threaten national cybersecurity.

To combat this challenge, Meutya strengthens digital supervision and law enforcement through strategic cooperation with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK). In addition, she said, her ministry has also launched the Content Moderation Compliance System (SAMAN), which requires digital platforms to follow up on high-risk content within four hours and other negative content within 24 hours.

Komdigi also issued the government regulation on child protection in digital space. "The construction of a healthy and safe digital space is not only the responsibility of the government, but is the result of collaboration from all elements of the nation," said Meutya.
