1. Indonesia's Whoosh High-Speed Rail Debt Concerning: House Responses to Financial Issues
The Investment Management Agency Danantara, together with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or PT KAI, has entered the stage of exploring the issues surrounding the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train (KCJB) project, also known as Whoosh, to find a solution to the debt burden facing the PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC).
"We are currently exploring the issues," said Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Danantara, Dony Oskaria, in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara, on Friday, August 22, 2025.
Dony stated that the exploration process is ongoing and will be resolved soon. "We will certainly settle the process as our President Director had already mentioned in the DPR, yes," said Dony.
2. UN Calls for Investigation into Deadly Protests in Indonesia
The United Nations (UN) on Monday called for an investigation into the alleged use of disproportionate force by authorities after 10 people died in protests across Indonesia.
The protests were triggered by public outrage over the lavish allowances given to parliament members and the government's extravagant policies leading to budget tightening.
"We are following closely the spate of violence in Indonesia in the context of nationwide protests over parliamentary allowances, austerity measures, and alleged use of unnecessary or disproportionate force by security forces," said the UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani as quoted by Barron's.
"We stress the importance of dialogue to address the public's concerns," she added.
3. Propam Polri Holds Case Review on Police Vehicle Running Over Ojol Driver
The Professional and Security Division (Propam) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) Headquarters conducted a case review of the incident involving a Jakarta Metropolitan Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) tactical vehicle that ran over online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver Affan Kurniawan.
The case review held today, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, was attended by several parties, including the National Police Commission (Kompolnas).
"Today's case review is scheduled for 9:30 AM WIB (Indonesian Western Time)," said Kompolnas Commissioner M. Choirul Anam on Tuesday in the courtyard of the Propam Division of the National Police Headquarters.
According to Anam, the length of today's case review depended on the material being studied, the questions being asked, the extent of the available evidence, and Propam's level of preparation to present it.
