TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Former Education Minister Nadiem Makarim was unable to attend the first hearing for the reading of the indictment in the alleged corruption case of the procurement of Chromebooks for the period 2019-2022 on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at the Jakarta Corruption Crime Court. This is because he is still undergoing recovery post-surgery.

Nadiem's legal advisor, Dodi S. Abdulkadir, stated that his client underwent surgery on Friday, December 12, 2025, due to an infection and bleeding.

"He has an infection. The prison conditions need to be assessed," said Dodi when met in Central Jakarta on Monday, December 15, 2025.

He mentioned that Nadiem was unable to attend today's first hearing, especially since the first thing in law is to inquire about the defendant's health.

Member of Nadiem's Legal Advisory Team, Zaid Mushadi, confirmed this. They will request the postponement of the reading of the indictment.

"That's why the request for a postponement is read in the hearing, and the decision is also announced in the hearing," he said on the same occasion.

Head of the Legal Information Center of the Attorney General's Office, Anang Supriatna, confirmed that Nadiem Makarim had undergone surgery last Friday. However, he did not provide further details on the type of surgery undergone by the founder of Gojek.

Anang also confirmed that Nadiem could not attend the trial in person today. "Yes, he is still recovering," he said when confirmed via text message on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

According to Tempo's records, Nadiem had previously undergone hemorrhoid surgery twice, as revealed by his wife, Franka Franklin.

"My prayers are with Mas Nadiem for a speedy recovery so he can undergo a second surgical operation and go through this legal process to the best of his ability," said Franka after attending her husband's pre-trial hearing at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday, October 6, 2025.
