TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An Australian Muslim cemetery was vandalized with severed pig heads in the aftermath of a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, local media reported on Monday, December 15, 2025, as cited by Anadolu.

Video footage showed the Muslim cemetery in Narellan, in Sydney’s southwest, defaced with chopped pig heads and other animal remains, according to news outlet news.com.au.

In a statement, New South Wales Police said they received reports of animal remains left at the entrance of the cemetery on Richardson Road, Narellan.

Officers attended and found several pig heads at the scene. Police immediately commenced an investigation into the incident,” the statement said.

Police confirmed that the remains had since been removed and disposed of, adding that inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

“The pig heads have since been removed and disposed of appropriately.”

The vandalism occurred a day after Australian police said two attackers, a 50-year-old man and his 24-year-old son, opened fire along Bondi Beach on Sunday night.

The mass shooting, which targeted a Hanukkah celebration, killed at least 15 people and injured 42 others, who were taken to hospitals for treatment.

One of the attackers was shot dead at the scene, while the other sustained critical injuries. Authorities have described the incident as a terrorist act.

No Evidence of Wider Network

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said there was currently no evidence that the father and son acted in coordination with others.

There’s no evidence that these people were part of a cell,” Albanese told ABC Australia, as quoted by Al Jazeera.

There may well be further information coming to light, but it would appear that these two have acted alone, driven though by this evil ideology,” he said, adding that the son remains in a coma.

Police identified the deceased suspect as Sajid Akram, 50. His son, Naveed Akram, 24, remains under police guard in hospital.

Family members living on the outskirts of Sydney said they believed the pair had gone fishing on the night of the attack.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed a motive.

Police said Sajid Akram arrived in Australia on a student visa in 1998 and legally owned six registered firearms. Naveed Akram was previously investigated in 2019 over security concerns, but authorities at the time assessed that he did not pose a threat.
