TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that 600 general practitioners, specialists, and nurses will be deployed to hospitals and community health centers (Puskesmas) in areas affected by the Sumatra floods. The presence of medical personnel at the disaster sites will be rotated every two weeks.

"In the first batch, we will deploy 600 people. 450 of them are ready to depart this week," Budi said during a plenary cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday, December 15, 2025.

He stated that the Ministry of Health has identified the need for general practitioners, specialists, and nurses in all locations affected by the Sumatra disaster. The doctors' deployment will be coordinated with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).

Budi stated that the doctors will come from various universities and hospitals across Indonesia. The Ministry of Health is recruiting through professional organizations and medical faculties at various universities, including Gadjah Mada University, the University of Indonesia, Muhammadiyah University, and Nahdlatul Ulama University. "We are opening widely. We have a volunteer database," said Budi.

Minister Budi also stated that all hospitals affected by the disaster in Sumatra have resumed operations. The first services to reopen are the Emergency Room (ER) and operating rooms until all hospital services are fully operational.

According to data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the death toll from floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra reached 1,030 as of Monday, December 15, 2025. The BNPB also noted that 206 people were still missing. The number of evacuees remaining as of Monday was 608,940.
