The following is the list of the top 3 news on Tempo English today:
1. Indonesia's Rupiah Predicted to Weaken Early Next Week
Currency observer, Ibrahim Assuaibi, predicts that the exchange rate of Indonesia's rupiah will close weaker in the range of Rp16,420-Rp16,470 per US dollar on Monday, September 8, 2025. Meanwhile, previously the rupiah closed weaker by 16 points at the level of Rp16,431 per US dollar on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Ibrahim explained several factors that caused the strengthening of the US dollar index at the end of this week's trading. First, the market is optimistic that the US central bank, The Federal Reserve, will cut the benchmark interest rate at the end of this month. This is because the Labor Statistics Bureau recorded a decrease in job vacancies in July to 7.18 million from 7.35 million in June.
2. Total Lunar Eclipse Observable from Indonesia, Here Are the Phases and Durations
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has stated that the Total Lunar Eclipse tonight, Sunday, September 7, 2025, can be observed from Indonesia. This phenomenon only occurs during the full moon phase.
"At the peak of the eclipse, the moon will appear red if the weather is clear," explained the BMKG in an official statement on Sunday morning.
The Total Lunar Eclipse occurs when the position of the Sun-Earth-Moon is aligned in a straight line. The Moon enters the Earth's umbra shadow.
3. Indonesia U-23 Victorious Over Macau in AFC U-23 Championship Qualifier
The Indonesia U-23 national team achieved a commanding victory over Macau in the 2026 AFC U-23 Championship qualification match. The game, held at Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo, East Java, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, ended with a 5-0 scoreline in favor of the young Garuda squad.
This triumph places Indonesia in second position in Group J with four points, trailing only South Korea, who also secured a decisive win against Laos. Meanwhile, Laos and Macau are in third and fourth place, respectively.
