TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Thai national, known as Yammi, claims to have received threats of cyberattacks, including doxing. According to Yammi, these threats are linked to his posts on the social media platform X, under the handle @sighyam.
Yammi stated that he frequently uploads content related to the mass protests that have been taking place in Indonesia since late August. His private account currently has 78,000 followers.
"My account was attacked when I wrote about the context of demonstrations in Indonesia," Yammi said in an online interview with Tempo on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
At the time, Yammi had posted about the increase in income for members of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the recent tax hikes in various regions. "The messages in my account were flooded with bots threatening doxing," he said.
Yammi's private Instagram account, @yamzarchive, was also temporarily mass-blocked by unknown users, and the account was briefly suspended by Meta.
The 28-year-old subsequently received voluntary assistance from an Indonesian cybersecurity professional to secure his personal data. "He works in the field of cyber security," Yammi said.
Yammi recently gained online attention for his act of ordering food for Indonesian online motorcycle taxi drivers. He mentioned that his decision to support the drivers was inspired by the death of Affan Kurniawan.
Affan, an online motorcycle taxi driver, was killed by a police tactical vehicle during a protest in Jakarta on the night of Thursday, August 28, 2025. Yammi also admitted to being inspired by the solidarity of Indonesian online motorcycle taxi drivers who took to the streets to demand justice for Affan.
"My initiative is just a small step. It will never be enough to compensate for the loss of a life," he said.
The cyberattack threats have not deterred Yammi. To this day, he remains active in raising awareness among the international community about the conditions in Indonesia, which have been marked by days of protests.
He stated that the Indonesian government needs to improve its approach. Moreover, he noted that the demonstrations have led to riots and resulted in several deaths.
"The world is watching. If the Indonesian government continues to deny and use violence, it will impact its image," Yammi concluded.
