TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said in Doha on Tuesday that Qatar would adopt a comprehensive approach to respond to Israel's attacks and prevent future ones.

Qatar reserves the right to respond to Israel and will not tolerate any violations of its sovereignty, he said in a press conference as reported by Xinhua and cited by Antara.

"The State of Qatar is committed to act in a decisive way with anything that would target its territories and will reserve the right to retaliate and will take all the needed measures to retaliate," said Al-Thani as reported by The Hill.

The country has also formed a team led by the State Minister at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, to take legal steps in response to the Israeli attack, the PM explained. The team will start working on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

Mediation regarding ceasefires and prisoner exchanges in Gaza will continue, but there are currently no ongoing discussions following the Israeli attack in Doha, he stated.

Al-Thani referred to the attack in Doha as "state terrorism" by Israel. He emphasized that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatens regional security and violates the sovereignty of neighboring countries.

"I think that we have reached a decisive moment. There should be retaliation from the whole region in the face of those barbaric actions that only reflects one thing: It reflects the barbarism of this person that is leading the region, unfortunately, to a point where we cannot address any situation and we cannot repair anything, and we cannot work within the frameworks of international laws. He just violates all those international laws," said al-Thani through an interpreter, referring to Netanyahu.

On Tuesday, Israel launched unprecedented airstrikes in the capital of Qatar, targeting a building used by senior Hamas officials. Israeli authorities referred to the attack as an attempt to kill the leaders of the group who "are directly responsible for the October 7 massacre."

Hamas later stated that the attack was launched while their delegation was discussing a new ceasefire proposal put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump. According to Hamas, the negotiation team survived, but six other people were killed.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that the Trump administration received information from the U.S. military that Israel carried out attacks on a number of Hamas targets in Doha and Trump "immediately directed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to inform Qatar of the impending attack."

However, Qatar denied receiving prior notification, calling the claim "baseless." They denounced the Israeli attack as a "serious threat" to the citizens and residents, a violation of sovereignty, and announced the suspension of the ongoing negotiations.

The attack immediately drew strong condemnation from the international community, including the United Nations (UN), Arab League, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey.
