TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's contingent has another chance to increase its gold medal tally at the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, through several sports entering the final rounds in Bangkok and Chonburi. Some of Indonesia's key athletes are scheduled to compete in the determining phase that has the potential to boost Indonesia's position in the temporary standings.
Quoted from Antara, rowing is one of Indonesia's main focuses. This sport has consistently contributed medals to Indonesia. Athletes like La Memo, Mutiara Rahma Putri, and their teammates are set to compete in the final events held today.
The opportunity for gold also exists in weightlifting. Leading lifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah is scheduled to compete in the men's 88-kilogram final at Chonburi Sports School. Rahmat Erwin is known as one of the most dominant athletes in Southeast Asia and has often been a source of gold for Indonesia. In addition, M. Zul Ilmi will compete in the men's 94-kilogram final, opening the possibility for additional medals for the Indonesian contingent.
In other sports, Indonesia also has the chance to achieve maximum results in triathlon, fencing, sepak takraw, kabaddi, and cycling. Meanwhile, in archery, the opportunity to advance to the final is open through the team event and mixed team recurve, with several athletes having advanced to the knockout phase and scheduled to compete in the determining matches in Bangkok.
Great hope also comes from pencak silat. Several Indonesian martial artists will compete in the semifinals. Results in this phase will at least secure a silver medal, with the opportunity for gold open if they can advance and perform at their best in the final.
In the men's doubles bowling event, Indonesian athletes are scheduled to compete in the determining rounds. Although the competition is expected to be tough, particularly with the host countries Thailand and Singapore, this event often brings surprises in medal standings.
Meanwhile, in the team events, Indonesia still has important matches in kabaddi, hockey, and cricket. Although some are still in the round robin and semifinal stages, the results of these matches are part of the effort to maintain Indonesia's position in the medal standings.
Up to this point, Indonesia has collected 52 gold, 65 silver, and 64 bronze medals, placing second in the temporary standings. Host country Thailand still remains at the top with 145 gold, 87 silver, and 59 bronze, followed by Vietnam in third place with 40 gold, 47 silver, and 70 bronze.
