TEMPO.COJakarta - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced the readiness to allocate a Rp60 trillion budget, derived from ministry/agency spending efficiencies, for recovery efforts following the Sumatra disasters.

"After the State Budget (APBN) was finalized in the DPR (House of Representatives), we reviewed all ministry/agency programs. It turned out there were still many unclear programs and meetings. We have reviewed all of it. Even before the disaster, we had already collected Rp60 trillion from those efficiencies. So, as the President has stated, we are ready once the funds are needed," Purbaya stated to reporters at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, December 15, 2026, as reported by Antara.

Purbaya assured that the funds requested by the Ministry of Public Works (PU) and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) for disaster recovery will be sourced from the State Budget. One key source is the evaluated 2026 spending efficiencies across various ministries and agencies.

This 2026 budget allocation will be utilized for the rehabilitation of disaster-affected areas. For the current year, Purbaya mentioned that the BNPB had proposed a budget of Rp1.6 trillion. Furthermore, the state treasury still has Rp1.3 trillion available for BNPB to request in the coming year.

In parallel, the state treasurer will also provide budgetary flexibility for local governments in the disaster-affected regions, effective next year. This flexibility is intended to empower local authorities to efficiently rebuild their areas. "So, there is no issue regarding the budget for disaster rehabilitation," he concluded.

Previously, Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo and Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Lieutenant General Suharyanto estimated that the total cost required to repair damages from the flash floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra would be Rp51.82 trillion.

This total requirement is broken down into Rp2.72 trillion for the emergency response phase and Rp49.10 trillion for long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction.

As for each region, the estimated recovery budget for Aceh is Rp 25.41 trillion, North Sumatra Rp 12.88 trillion, and West Sumatra Rp 13.52 trillion.
