TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the 80th anniversary of China's victory over Japan at Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Upon arrival at Tiananmen, the Head of State headed to the leaders' lounge, walking past the honor guard troops. Before participating in a photo session, Prabowo was welcomed by President Xi Jinping and the First Lady Peng Liyuan of China.

In the group photo session, President Prabowo stood to the right of Russian President Vladimir Putin. After the group photo session, Prabowo, along with other world leaders, proceeded to the Tiananmen podium.

From the Tiananmen podium, President Prabowo sat alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese Premier Li Qiang. They seemed focused on witnessing the commemoration held every 10 years.

According to the official statement from the Presidential Palace, a total of 26 heads of state were present. Among those present were the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and the Malaysian Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim.

In addition to the heads of state, the President of the New Development Bank (NDB), Dilma Rousseff, also attended this celebration. On various occasions, President Prabowo was seen conversing with the attending world leaders.

After the activities at Tiananmen, President Prabowo, along with other world leaders, then proceeded to the Great Hall of the People to attend a reception hosted by President Xi Jinping. The series of celebrations concluded with a performance of Chinese arts and culture.

President Prabowo decided to travel to Beijing, despite having initially canceled his visit due to nationwide protests last week.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the Head of State flew to Beijing on the night of Tuesday, September 2, 2025, to accept President Xi Jinping's invitation, originally scheduled for August 31, 2025.

Prasetyo stated that the reason the President still went ahead with the visit was due to a request from the Chinese government for Prabowo to attend, at least for one day, the Chinese military parade. "The President, in making decisions, certainly takes into account everything related to the dynamics in the country," he said.

Prasetyo revealed that the head of state had been monitoring the domestic situation before traveling to China. Prabowo received reports from his team indicating that life was gradually returning to normal for the people, which is why he decided to travel to China for just one day.

Prabowo was scheduled to meet with various world leaders in Beijing. According to Prasetyo, the President would discuss bilateral relations with China during the visit. "The next evening on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, he will return to the country," he said.
