TEMPO.CO, JakartaPolice and military forces reportedly raided the campuses of Bandung Islamic University (Unisba) and Pasundan University (Unpas) on Jalan Tamansari, Bandung City, on the evening of Monday, September 1, 2025, deploying tear gas. An on-site witness stated that the raid occurred after the protesters had already left the campus.

"It happened when the demonstration was over and the campus was a bit quieter, and the protesters had already gone home," Nabil, a Unisba student, told Tempo on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

According to Nabil, officers from the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian Military (TNI) began arriving at 8:00 p.m. "These officers were on motorcycles, brought three armored vehicles, and one truck to transport the protesters," he said.

Nabil described the arrival of the forces as sporadic, coming from various directions. "There was indeed some friction between officers and the protesters on Jalan Trunojoyo. Some protesters were pushed back from the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) Building," he said.

After 9:00 p.m., officers continued to fire tear gas from the campus gate. Nabil lost count of the number of rounds fired, but estimated "around 4-5 shots." He added that police and TNI forces remained on guard around the campus until the early morning.

Earlier that afternoon, student executive boards (BEM) and student organizations in Bandung had held a demonstration at the DPRD building. According to Tempo's observations, the crowd dispersed at 5:30 p.m. However, after the main group, most of whom wore university jackets, left, hundreds of protesters from other groups began throwing bottles and Molotov cocktails at the DPRD building.

At 6:30 p.m., police started to block the area by firing tear gas, pushing the crowd back from the front of the DPRD building. The crowd scattered toward Jalan Trunojoyo, Sulanjana, and Tamansari.

According to Nabil, injured protesters were evacuated to the Unisba campus around 8:00 p.m. "They were evacuated using ambulances and motorcycles by paramedics," he said.

The Unisba and Unpas campuses, located only about 1.3 kilometers from the demonstration site at the West Java DPRD Building, served as evacuation points for injured protesters. Both locations have a history of functioning as aid stations during protests. In fact, Unisba provided ambulances and medical personnel to treat injured individuals.

During this incident, several witnesses claimed that officers fired more than 10 rounds of tear gas at the campus. In fact, 30 tear gas canisters were reportedly found on the Unpas campus, which is near Unisba on Jalan Tamansari. The incident resulted in five injuries and one burnt motorcycle. Nabil stated that three campus security guards and two students were injured and suffered from breathing difficulties after the incident.
