TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Journalists from Tempo requested interviews with the National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Deputy Chief Comr. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo, regarding the police project to plant corn through various initiatives. We sent both printed and digital letters through messaging applications, passed them through a colleague of Listyo, and delivered them to senior police officers close to the two leaders.
Listyo did not respond to the interview request at all. Dedi said that the National Police Assistant for Human Resources, Insp. Gen. Anwar, would provide a written response. But Anwar—who also leads the police food-security team—had not sent any answers as of Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Tempo reporters briefly approached Anwar for a doorstep interview after a troop assembly for Operation Ketupat 2026 in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, March 12, 2026. “We are waiting for instructions from the Police Chief first,” he said.
The only response came from the Chief of the National Police Food Task Force, Brig. Gen. Ade Safri Simanjuntak. Ade and his team are primarily tasked with supervising and monitoring the prices of staple food. He is also responsible for taking action against businesses that violate procedures related to the distribution and price stability of essential commodities. “The enforcement is carried out in layers,” the Director of Special Economic Crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) told Tempo on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
How is the police involved in food security, a task that does not fall within your institution’s core duties?
We support the distribution of rice under the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program through the National Police SPHP Task Force. The team analyzes and evaluates the distribution of SPHP rice on a daily, monthly, and semiannual basis. We coordinate with Bulog (State Logistics Agency) and report the progress to the Police Chief.
