TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) is urging the public to contribute testimony for the prosecution process of the police officer involved in the death of online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan. The prosecution process will be conducted by the Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri).
"We invite the public to strengthen the testimony. If there is testimony or information, please come to the police, to the Bareskrim (Criminal Investigation Department)," said Kompolnas commissioner Choirul Anam at the National Police Headquarters on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Anam stated that the public can also contribute their testimony through Kompolnas. Testimony can take the form of video recordings related to the incident of the alleged abuse of Affan around Penjernihan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Anam emphasized that this is an effort to strengthen the prosecution process.
The prosecution process was handed over by the Indonesian National Police's Professionalism and Security Division (Propam Polri) after conducting a case review on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. "The results (of the case review) yesterday recommended transferring the criminal elements to Bareskrim Polri. Specifically, the Propam division to Bareskrim," said the Head of the Indonesian National Police Public Information Bureau, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko at the National Police Headquarters on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
The police have dismissed Commissioner Police Kosmas Kaju Gae, the commander of the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) tactical vehicle that ran over Affan Kurniawan, with dishonorable discharge. Kosmas is registered as the commander of the IV Brimob Corps regiment. Kosmas and the driver of the tactical vehicle, Chief Brigadier Rohmat, are suspected of serious ethical violations and face potential criminal charges. Chief Brigadier Rohmat is scheduled to undergo an ethics trial on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Meanwhile, the five other officers who were in the back seats are suspected of moderate ethical violations. They are First Brigadier Danang, Second Brigadier Mardin, Chief Bharaka Jana Edi, Chief Bharaka Yohanes David, and Second Inspector M Rohyani. According to the official, moderate ethical violations can lead to demotion or relocation. These five other police officers will undergo ethics trials after Rohmat.
