TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) inspected the scene where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs diplomat Arya Daru Pangayunan, 39, was found dead. The inspection took place at the boarding house where the deceased had lived in Gondangdia, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin Siagian, who led the monitoring agenda, said that the case of death is currently under the commission's attention. "We offer our deepest condolences to the family. Komnas HAM will continue to monitor this case," Saurlin said at the scene.
He stated that Komnas HAM is aware that the police are investigating the case and will soon reveal the facts. He mentioned that Komnas HAM will wait for the police's next steps.
Furthermore, Saurlin stated that Komnas HAM will also search for facts about this case. "We will search for additional facts if necessary to understand this incident," he said.
At the scene, Komnas HAM requested direct information from the Mobile Detective of the General Crime Detective Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the boarding house guard. The Komnas HAM team gathered several pieces of information, including the sequence of events, the deceased's daily activities, CCTV recordings, and the progress of the police investigation.
Arya Daru's body was found with his head wrapped in duct tape and his body covered with a blanket in room 105 of the Guest House Gondia, Gondangdia, Menteng, Central Jakarta. This case has been taken over by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police after previously being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Police.
Initially, the Central Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner (Kombes) Susatyo Purnomo Condro said that residents first discovered Daru's body. "We received a report from residents regarding the discovery of a man who had passed away in a boarding house in the Gondangdia area," Susatyo said in his statement on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
Daru's body was buried at the Sunten Cemetery Public Cemetery, Banguntapan, Bantul, on Wednesday afternoon, July 9, 2025.
