2. Trump's Proposed Nuclear Tests: What You Need to Know

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - It has been 33 years since an explosive US nuclear weapons test. But, on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump appeared to give the order to reinstate them "immediately".

A post from the president on his Truth Social platform referenced the nuclear threat of Russia and China. "Because of other countries testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis," he wrote, referring to the recently renamed US Department of Defense.

A few days earlier, Trump had denounced Russia for testing a nuclear-powered missile of its own. Should his apparent promise become reality, it will be a reversal of a decades-long moratorium on nuclear testing.

3. Indonesian Govt Floats Plan to Employ Former Migrant Workers in Village Cooperatives

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Cooperatives, in collaboration with the Ministry of Migrant Workers Protection, is working to strengthen Red and White Village Cooperatives institutions. The ministries are moving to empower former Indonesian migrant workers to participate in managing the cooperatives.

Cooperatives are referred to as means to empower migrant workers who have completed their employment contracts overseas, said Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono. He hopes that former migrant workers can become active members of the cooperative to channel their experiences and resources into society.

"With their international experience, former migrant workers can bring new business practices, networks, and a spirit of professionalism to the cooperatives. They can also become a driving force for village cooperatives," Ferry said in a statement on Friday, October 31, 2025.
