TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The material losses due to the impact of protests and riots in Jakarta last week have increased. Based on the latest calculation by the government, the losses from public facilities and damaged infrastructures have now reached Rp80 billion.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo mentioned that the government has newly identified several damaged infrastructures. After the assessment, the initial estimated losses of Rp55 billion have increased.

According to Pramono, the newly identified infrastructures include pedestrian overpasses (JPO) in Pasar Senen and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters. "After recounting, there are two JPOs, one in Senen and one in front of the police headquarters, which have suffered serious damage and were only recently calculated by the Public Works Department," said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Pramono stated that the central government will assist in repairing both JPOs. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician said that the Ministry of Public Works will handle the repairs for both bridges, with a required budget of Rp19 billion.

In addition to the two JPOs, Pramono mentioned that other facilities were also damaged, including closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. "Several CCTV cameras in the field have been damaged, as well as the repair of 18 traffic lights. Alhamdulillah, 17 out of 18 have been fully repaired. Only one remains unfinished, which is in Slipi," he added.

Pramono mentioned that 22 Transjakarta bus stops and one toll gate were damaged as a result of the protests. Six Transjakarta bus stops were set on fire and looted, while 16 others were targeted for destruction and vandalism. In addition, the mass rapid transit (MRT) facilities in the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman area were also damaged.

Riots broke out in several areas on Thursday, August 28, 2025. It began with labor and student protests in front of the House of Representatives/People's Consultative Assembly (MPR/DPR) building in Senayan, criticizing the extravagant allowances for parliament members.

The initial protest proceeded peacefully. However, by late afternoon, riots broke out. Police efforts to disperse the crowd led to the death of an online motorcycle taxi driver, Affan Kurniawan, who was hit by a Jakarta Metropolitan Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) vehicle. Affan's death sparked public outrage. The Brimob headquarters in Kwitang, Central Jakarta, was stormed by the crowd on Thursday night. The riots continued until Sunday, August 31, 2025.
