TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo renames the Transjakarta Senen Sentral Bus Stop in Central Jakarta into "Jaga Jakarta" Bus Stop. The renaming took place after the bus shelter was set on fire during a riot on Friday, August 30, 2025.
The shelter has now been repaired by the Jakarta government, and Pramono said the renaming serves as a marker for the protest that led to chaos.
The name "Jaga Jakarta," or "Protect Jakarta," is a reminder for everyone to prevent another case of public facility destruction. "As part of our effort to safeguard Jakarta together to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, I, along with the City Hall officials, decided to change this Central Jakarta bus stop to 'Jaga Jakarta,'" said Pramono in a written statement on Monday, September 8, 2025.
Pramono emphasized that everyone must partake in safeguarding Jakarta, as it's not solely the responsibility of the provincial government. He also thanked all Jakarta residents for their participation in restoring Jakarta after the protests.
According to Pramono, all public transportation services are operating as normal after the week-long demonstrations.
At the Transjakarta Jaga Jakarta Bus Stop, a memorial has been built to remind residents that public facilities belong to all people. "The memorial serves as a reminder that an incident occurred here, which hopefully will never be repeated,' said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician.
PT Transportasi Jakarta, or Transjakarta, recorded that seven of their bus shelters were set on fire during the late August demonstrations. Additionally, 16 other bus stops were damaged due to vandalism.
The President Director of Transjakarta, Welfizon Yuza, said all Transjakarta bus stops are now operational. "On the last working day of last week, Transjakarta customers reached 1.3 million per day, indicating that Jakarta's mobility and economy have fully recovered," said Welfizon.
