Iran Pledges Retaliation for Any US or Israeli Military Action

5 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh has warned that Iran will attack the interests, bases, and forces of the United States and Israel if either of the two countries initiates a war against the Islamic Republic.

Nasirzadeh made the statement in an interview with the Iranian news agency IRIB, published on Sunday, as quoted by Antara. This was in response to the recent threat by U.S. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth, who warned that Iran would pay the consequences for supporting the Houthis.

Hegseth stated that Iran has a large arsenal of missiles at its bases and would not hesitate to use them against regional targets if war breaks out.

Nasirzadeh said if such a war comes from the U.S. or Israel, the Islamic Republic of Iran will target their interests, bases, and forces wherever and whenever deemed necessary.

He further criticized what he described as contradictions in the behavior of the U.S., which claims to be open to negotiations while simultaneously threatening Iran through various channels.

Nasirzadeh stated that Yemen is an independent country and makes its own decisions, advising the U.S. to refrain from creating a crisis in the Middle East.

Earlier, the Houthi group claimed responsibility for a missile attack that hit a road leading to the main terminal of Ben Gurion Airport in central Israel over the weekend, causing minor injuries to four people and damage to the runway.

The Israeli military said that the air defense system attempted to intercept the missile but failed.

In a separate statement, the Israeli military said that the initial investigation indicated that the likely cause of the failure was a "technical problem" with the intercepting missile.

Following the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a warning to the Houthis in a video statement, threatening to launch an attack against the group.

He later posted on the social media platform X that Israel would retaliate against the Houthis in Yemen and their ally, Iran.
