TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team is in Pot 3 for the draw of the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualification matches, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
In the official release by the AFC quoted on Saturday, Indonesia is in Pot 3 along with Oman. Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, who finished third in the third round of the qualification round, occupy Pot 2. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as the hosts, are in Pot 1.
"The draw will divide the cast into two groups of three teams, with only the winners sealing progress to next year’s global showpiece. Each group will be played in a single round-robin format in a centralised venue — the Qatar Football Association and Saudi Arabian Football Federation were confirmed as the Host Member Associations last month," the AFC stated on its official page.
Out of these six teams, Indonesia is at the bottom of the new FIFA world rankings released last Thursday. Indonesia is placed at 118, and is the only fourth-round team outside the top 100.
The closest team to Indonesia is Oman, with a world ranking of 79, and will experience their first World Cup if they qualify for the tournament to be held next year in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Indonesia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar are each ambitious to qualify for the second time, while Saudi Arabia hopes to participate in the seventh edition.
The fourth round will be played on October 8, 11, and 14, 2025. Six teams are divided into two groups, each containing three teams.
Ultimately, only the group champions will qualify automatically for the 2026 World Cup, while each runner-up will advance to the fifth round to compete in two legs, and the winners will face teams from other confederations in the playoff round.
