TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk has released an official statement following the announcement that Nadiem Makarim has been named a suspect in a corruption case. The case involves the procurement of Chromebooks at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
Ade Mulya, Director of Public Affairs & Communications for PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk, confirmed that Nadiem, who founded Gojek before becoming a minister, is no longer affiliated with the company.
"Nadiem Makarim is no longer a director, commissioner, or employee of PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa, or what was known as Gojek at that time," Ade said in a statement on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
According to Ade, Nadiem resigned as President Commissioner of Gojek in October 2019 upon his inauguration as a minister. Since then, he has not been involved in GoTo’s operational activities or management. This includes the period when Gojek and Tokopedia merged in 2021.
Ade also stated that "Nadiem Makarim also does not hold controlling shares in GoTo."
GoTo, as a public company, asserts that it always follows principles of good corporate governance, accountability, and transparency. "GoTo respects the ongoing legal process as part of efforts to support law enforcement."
Nadiem Makarim's Alleged Corruption Case
The corruption investigation into the Chromebook procurement has led the public prosecutor's office to conduct a search at GoTo's office on Jalan Iskandarsyah, Melawai, South Jakarta, on July 8, 2025. The search was reportedly carried out to trace Google's investment process in Gojek, which is believed to be connected to the case.
Nadiem's legal representative, Hotman Paris Hutapea, has previously denied any link between Google's investment and the corruption case.
"Google made the investment in the same year as the laptop purchase. But before that, Google had invested in Gojek four times at market prices. There is no connection," Hotman stated on Thursday, September 4, 2025. He also emphasized that Nadiem never received any funds from the Chromebook procurement.
