TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Homegrown tech giant PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GoTo) has addressed the raid conducted by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) at their office in Melawai, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
"GoTo respects the ongoing legal process as part of efforts to support law enforcement," said Ade Mulya, GoTo's Director of Public Affairs and Communications, in an official statement received by Tempo.
The AGO raided GoTo's office in connection with an investigation into alleged corruption in the procurement of Chromebook laptops for the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Research and Technology during the 2019-2022 period. During the raid, investigators seized various documents, letters, and electronic evidence, such as flash drives.
Ade affirmed that the company will cooperate fully and follow the authorities' instructions. He emphasized that as a public company, GoTo always prioritizes good corporate governance principles and operates accountably and transparently in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Chromebook Case Investigation Widens
Harli Siregar, AGO's Head of the Information Center, said that the raid was conducted to shed light on the Chromebook case. In addition to GoTo's office, the prosecutor's office had earlier raided three other locations: the apartments of two former special staffers to Education Minister Nadiem Makarim, Jurist Tan and Fiona Handayani, as well as the house of former consultant to the Education Minister, Ibrahim Arief.
From Fiona's apartment in Kuningan, South Jakarta, investigators seized one laptop and three mobile phones. From Jurist Tan's apartment at Ciputra World 2, South Jakarta, two external hard drives, one flash drive, and one laptop were seized. Subsequently, a number of electronic evidence items were also seized from Jurist Tan's house in Cilandak, South Jakarta.
The procurement of Chromebooks involved a substantial sum reaching Rp9.9 trillion, with an additional Rp6.6 trillion coming from special allocation funds. The prosecutor's office suspects manipulation in the assessment process that led to the selection of Google products. According to the prosecutor, an initial assessment published in April 2020 highlighted the advantages of Windows over Chromebook, which is dependent on an internet connection.
In this case, several parties have been questioned, including former Education Minister Nadiem Makarim, along with Fiona, Ibrahim, and Google's marketing manager, Ganis Samoedra Murhayono.
Representatives of electronic distribution companies have also been questioned, including PT Zyrexindo Mandiri Buana, PT ESC Indo Jaya, PT Synex Metrodata, PT Tixpro Informatika Megah, PT Evercoss Technology Indonesia, PT Acer Manufacturing Indonesia, PT Bhinneka Mentari Dimensi, and PT Supertono.
