TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Dody Hanggodo, announced that repairs to damaged Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) buildings following the late August 2025 demonstrations could take up to six months, with costs estimated at Rp900 billion from the State Budget (APBN).
The buildings affected by riots are spread across several regions, including Makassar, Solo, South Sumatra, Kediri, Jepara, and assets of the Regional Deliberation Council in West Java.
Dody clarified that not all facilities were heavily damaged. Some only need minor repairs, such as window replacements.
“For lightly damaged buildings, renovations can be completed quickly, in less than one week. For severely damaged ones, it might take around six months,” he said when met at the Pejompongan Toll Gate, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
He noted that severely damaged facilities include the DPRD building in Makassar and the West Java Regional Council building, both of which were gutted by fire. Lighter cases include walls sprayed with paint or cracked by stones.
Beyond DPRD buildings, Dody also highlighted damage to public facilities, including at least seven toll gates in Jakarta. These were vandalized or looted during the rally on Friday, August 29. Repairs, however, will be covered by Jasa Marga, the state-owned enterprise that manages toll roads.
According to Dody, the Pejompongan Toll Gate suffered the most severe destruction after being set on fire twice. Tempo’s observation confirmed the facility is no longer usable.
“The ones that have been completely burned down will probably be demolished. We will get them functional again as soon as possible,” Dody said.
As for the other six toll gates, he added, operations could resume soon because the damage was less extensive.
“I have instructed Jasa Marga. The damaged toll gates will be repaired much faster,” he noted, urging the public to temporarily use unaffected toll gates.
