TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, stated that the body of Zetro Leonardo Purba, a staff member of the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Peru who died from gunshot wounds earlier this month, will soon be repatriated to Indonesia. "According to the plan, in the next few days, it is expected that Zetro's body can be repatriated to Indonesia," Judha said on Saturday, September 6, 2025, as reported by Antara.

According to Judha, the Indonesian Embassy in Lima is currently coordinating with local authorities for the repatriation process of Zetro's body. An autopsy was also conducted on Zetro's body on September 2, 2025.

The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela, stated on Thursday, September 4, 2025, that the Indonesian Embassy in Lima had been intensively coordinating with the Peruvian police to oversee the investigation process to understand the motive and identify the perpetrator of the shooting against Zetro.

"The police are making various efforts, including gathering evidence and securing surveillance camera recordings from the incident location," Nabyl said in his statement.

The police in Lima have coordinated with the local prosecutor's office to investigate this incident and have also provided extra surveillance and protection for Zetro's family, he said.

The Indonesian government, through the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, has also delivered a diplomatic note to the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request that "the handling process of this case receives great attention," Nabyl said.

Zetro Leonardo Purba, a Junior Chancery Secretary at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, was shot to death by an unknown person near his residence on Monday, September 1, 2025.

Zetro, a staff member of the Indonesian Embassy in Peru, died after being shot three times by an unidentified person just a few meters from his residence in the Lince area of Lima. Five months ago, he arrived in Peru to carry out his duties at the Indonesian embassy. He had previously served at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Melbourne.

In response to the incident, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anis Matta, stated that they would soon evaluate the protection scheme for diplomats and staff stationed abroad.
