TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto summoned several ministers from the Indonesia Onward Cabinet this afternoon, October 19. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi confirmed the weekend gathering is a routine event frequently held by the President with his cabinet members. "There is a plan for a meeting this afternoon," Prasetyo told the media earlier today.
Prasetyo stated that the meeting is scheduled to focus on the further development of human resources based on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
He added that the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek), Brian Yuliarto, is also expected to attend.
This meeting follows a prior discussion on STEM preparation held by the head of state immediately upon his arrival in the homeland after attending the High-Level Conference for Gaza peace in Egypt.
At that time, Prabowo gathered some of his ministers in the VIP room of Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta.
Prasetyo explained that during that initial meeting, Prabowo assigned him to assist in the preparation of human resources for the downstreaming sector and to oversee several major government programs.
These programs, such as those in the plantation and maritime sectors, certainly require skilled human resources. "Thus, the President specifically assigned Mendiktisaintek to prepare the human resources," Prasetyo affirmed.
The Prabowo-Gibran administration is set to mark its one-year anniversary on October 20. In the previous presidential election, the duo surpassed two other pairs of candidates with a total of 96,214,691 votes, representing 58.6 percent of the national valid votes.
