TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A training aircraft suffered an incident on the runway at Juanda International Airport in Sidoarjo, East Java, on Friday, January 30, 2026. This disruption forced a temporary runway closure of approximately one hour, necessitating the diversion of several incoming flights.
"Due to the temporary closure, nine flights were diverted to other airports," stated Juanda International Airport General Manager Mohammad Tohir in a formal release.
Tohir explained that the hour-long closure was essential for the aircraft's evacuation and a runway inspection to ensure no Foreign Object Debris (FOD) or other potential risks remained to disrupt flight operations.
Following the evacuation and a safety clearance, the runway has since reopened, and flight operations at Juanda Airport have returned to their regular schedule.
He further noted that Juanda Airport is coordinating closely with airlines to manage passenger needs and ensure flight operations resume smoothly.
"We apologize to all airport service users and relevant parties for the inconvenience caused and express our gratitude for the understanding and cooperation of all parties," he concluded.
