TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Director of Investigation at the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, confirmed that the residence of the former Minister of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Siti Nurbaya Bakar, has been searched by investigators. "That's correct," he stated when contacted by Tempo on Friday, January 30, 2026.
However, Syarief did not elaborate further on the specific case associated with the search.
A legal official aware of the operation stated that the search was connected to a land conversion case. "It is related to land conversion," the source remarked on Friday, January 30, 2026.
Siti Nurbaya is a politician from the NasDem Party, originally from Jakarta, born on August 28, 1956. The Betawi-born official served as the Minister of Environment and Forestry for two consecutive terms.
Her first term spanned the 2014-2019 period in the Working Cabinet under the leadership of President Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Subsequently, she was reappointed by President Jokowi to hold the position of Minister of Environment and Forestry in the Indonesia Onward Cabinet for the 2019-2024 period.
During her second term, the Attorney General's Office for Special Crimes conducted a search at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry on October 4, 2024. At that time, the investigation team removed four large boxes and two small boxes from the KLHK office. That particular search was related to allegations of corruption in the management of oil palm plantations between 2016 and 2024.
