TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Search efforts continue for the five residents who were reported missing following flash floods in the Mauponggo District, Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), along with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Nagekeo Regency and the joint task force, is facing major challenges on the ground as the disaster enters its third day.

The frequently changing weather, along with the accumulation of mud and wood debris, has made the search process even more difficult. BNPB announced that as of Wednesday, September 10, 2025, 18 villages in Mauponggo remain isolated due to the cut-off road access, power outages, and disabled mobile phone communication. This condition makes it impossible to distribute aid through land routes.

BNPB mentioned that the region still awaits the official designation of  emergency response status, as Nagekeo Regent is meeting the NTT Governor in Kupang to discuss the situation at hand. Once the emergency status is declared, BNPB will promptly dispatch support personnel and provide additional aid to the affected residents.

"We continue to coordinate with local governments to ensure effective emergency response and the fulfill residents' essential needs," as stated in BNPB's official statement.

As a precautionary step, the NTT Provincial BPBD is preparing to send logistical aid via sea routes scheduled to start on Thursday, September 11, 2025. The aid includes 100 blankets, 100 mattresses, 75 hygiene kits, 50 sets of cooking equipment, and 25 folding beds. Additional ready-to-eat meals are also recommended to support the needs of the survivors.

Meanwhile, the Nagekeo Regency BPBD has established a shelter in Mauponggo that currently houses 30 individuals. Urgent needs still required include tents, food supplies, clothing, baby supplies, and the option to drop logistical support by air to isolated areas. BNPB emphasizes that all available resources will be maximized to expedite the restoration of access and reach out to residents who are still trapped in isolation.
