TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Health Ministry is responding to the launch of a new cancer treatment developed by Russian scientists. Health Minister Budi Gunadi has already communicated with the manufacturer.
"I have heard about it and have also spoken with several companies that produce it," Budi said at the Health Ministry building in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Budi explained that Entromix, the treatment developed by Russia, is more accurately classified as a drug, though its testing method is similar to a vaccine's. He noted that the Indonesian government is interested in understanding it better.
As a result, a special team has been sent to assess if Indonesia would be a suitable location for one of the clinical trial sites. "Currently, the cancer drug is undergoing a clinical trial," said Budi.
Breakthrough in Cancer Treatment
Previously, Russia's mRNA-based cancer treatment, Enteromix, was reported to have shown 100% effectiveness and safety in clinical trials. These results are seen as a major breakthrough, offering new hope in the fight against aggressive cancer and its development.
"The Russian Enteromix cancer vaccine is now ready for clinical use," according to a statement from the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA), as reported by The Times of India on September 9, 2025.
FMBA Head Veronica Skvortsova stated that the mRNA-based treatment has successfully passed preclinical trials, proving to be both safe and effective. The treatment has shown significant results in shrinking tumors, slowing their growth, and is safe for repeated use.
The drug was developed by the National Medical Research Radiological Center of the Ministry of Health of Russia in collaboration with the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology (EIMB) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). They have tested the treatment on 48 people.
According to a report from MedPath, Enteromix uses four harmless viruses to attack and destroy tumors while also strengthening the immune system. After years of testing, the treatment has been proven capable of slowing down cancer growth and, in some cases, completely destroying it.
The next step is awaiting regulatory approval. If successful, Enteromix would become the first personalized mRNA cancer treatment available to the public.
