TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are set to reunite in an upcoming romantic thriller currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios. The screenplay will be penned by Noah Oppenheim, though the film’s plot remains under wraps for now.
In addition to taking on the lead roles, Reeves and Bullock will also serve as producers on the untitled project.
According to Variety, the film’s production team includes Sandra Bullock through her company Fortis Films, Keanu Reeves, Mark Gordon, and Bibby Dunn via The Mark Gordon Company, as well as Oppenheim and Sarah Bremner through Prologue Entertainment.
The concept for the romantic thriller was originally pitched to Reeves and Bullock by Gordon and Oppenheim, who then worked with them to develop the film.
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock Reunite Since Speed
This marks a major on-screen reunion for the two stars, who are both now 60 years old. They first appeared together in the 1994 hit action film Speed, which also had Mark Gordon as a producer.
As reported by People, the pair recently commemorated the 30th anniversary of Speed at Beyond Fest, attending a screening at the American Cinematheque. They appeared on stage alongside director Jan de Bont to reflect on their time filming the movie.
In Speed, Reeves portrayed Jack, a police officer in Los Angeles who must save passengers on a bus rigged with a bomb set to detonate if the vehicle drops below 50 miles per hour. Bullock played Annie, a brave passenger who helps Jack, along with his police partner Harry (Jeff Daniels).
"I was behind the wheel of a projectile, so I was just happy to be alive at the end of the day," Sandra Bullock joked.
Often hailed as one of the best action films of the 1990s, Speed earned over US$350 million at the global box office, equivalent to more than US$750 million today when adjusted for inflation.
The two actors later reunited on screen in the 2006 romantic drama The Lake House.
Keanu Reeves is slated to return as John Wick in Ballerina (2025), a spinoff led by Ana de Armas, and will also play an angel in the upcoming film Good Fortune. Sandra Bullock, meanwhile, most recently starred in the 2022 adventure romance The Lost City, which grossed nearly $200 million worldwide.
