TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Majid Khademi, the intelligence chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Monday, according to DW, citing Iranian state media. Iranian media did not immediately provide further details on the circumstances of his death.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz later confirmed that Israel had targeted Khademi.
“The Revolutionary Guards are shooting at civilians, and we are eliminating the leaders of the terrorists,” Katz said. “Iran’s leaders live with a sense of being targeted. We will continue to hunt them down one by one,” he added, according to Israeli media reports.
Khademi’s death came amid a fresh wave of U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran on Monday, which reportedly killed at least 25 people, according to multiple media reports. Iranian state media and other international outlets said the attacks were part of the latest escalation in the conflict that has intensified since late February.
Iran later launched drones and missiles at targets in the Gulf and Israel. In Haifa, at least two people were killed in an Iranian missile strike on a residential building late Sunday, according to international media reports.
Several senior Iranian officials have been killed since the conflict began, including former top security official Ali Larijani and IRGC commander-in-chief Mohammad Pakpour, further eroding Tehran’s senior leadership ranks. Reuters has also identified Khademi among the high-profile figures killed in the strikes.
Despite the losses, analysts say Iran’s decentralized command structure has allowed the country to continue coordinating retaliatory attacks even after senior officials are killed.
