TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Holding a Cabinet retreat at his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, President Prabowo Subianto and his team laid out several agenda items. Prabowo opened the meeting with an evaluation of the government’s performance during a session held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

After reviewing the achievements of the Red and White Cabinet, Prabowo turned to what he described as the threat of disinformation emanating from the media. He asked organizers to play a video showing how India’s leadership created national stability by combating falsehoods in mass media and on social media.

He then issued instructions to Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra and Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas. Prabowo told them to conduct a study to draft regulations governing the prevention of disinformation and foreign propaganda. He also asked the two ministers to begin examining comparative regulations in countries that already have laws addressing propaganda.

Yusril said President Prabowo had indeed ordered him to draft rules to prevent disinformation and propaganda. “The President instructed me and the Law Minister,” said the former General Chair of the Crescent Star Party (PBB) at the House of Representatives (DPR) complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Two Cabinet members who attended the retreat also said the idea for the draft regulation came from President Prabowo.

A week after the Hambalang meeting, an academic paper outlining the foreign propaganda bill circulated publicly. The 69-page draft, bearing the logo of the Law Ministry, was titled Draft Law on the Prevention of Disinformation and Foreign Propaganda.
