TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has designated January 19th as "Dolly Parton Day" to celebrate what would have been the country music legend's 80th birthday. This was stated in an official proclamation issued by the state government. The proclamation also stated that the establishment of Dolly Parton Day honors Dolly's lifetime of accomplishments, dedication, and positive impact.
Governor Lee stated that Dolly Parton's life and career are inextricably intertwined with Tennessee's rich music, culture, and history. He further noted that Dolly's talent and generosity have had a lasting impact on the world. "and it is fitting that we honor her 80th birthday by celebrating her remarkable legacy and dedication to the Volunteer State," Lee said, as quoted on the state government's official website.
In addition to her artistic achievements, Parton is also known for her commitment to community service and philanthropy. Parton has helped provide hundreds of millions of free books to children worldwide through the Dollywood Foundation and the Imagination Library. "She has promoted literacy and empowered children to reach their full potential," the official statement read.
Birthday Wishes
According to a People report, Parton was inundated with birthday wishes from fellow country musicians on social media. Everyone from Reba McEntire to Billy Ray Cyrus to Shania Twain all offered their congratulations.
"Dolly Parton at 80 is a reminder of what music is supposed to do... bring people together, lift spirits, and tell the truth with heart," wrote Billy Ray Cyrus, along with a photo of himself with Parton and Miley Cyrus.
"I want to wish the most happiest of birthdays to my musical hero @dollyparton! What a privilege it is to know you," Shania Twain wrote on her Instagram account.
In an interview with People for the magazine's November 2025 cover, Parton reflected on her 80th birthday. "People say, 'Well, you're going to be 80 years old.’ Well, so what? Look at all I’ve done in 80 years. I feel like I’m just getting started," said the "Jolene" singer.
New Song Released for Charity
Dolly Parton has "celebrated" her birthday early by releasing a new version of her 1977 song "Light of a Clear Blue Morning." According to Billboard, Parton released the song to convey strong hope and optimism alongside her bandmates Lainey Wilson, Reba McEntire, Queen Latifah, and Miley Cyrus. "As I celebrate my 80th birthday, this new version is my way of using what I’ve been blessed with to shine a little light forward, especially by sharing it with some truly incredible women" Parton said.
The song, written by Parton, was produced by Kent Wells and herself, with arrangements by Chris Lord-Alge. All net proceeds from the song and music video will be donated to pediatric cancer research programs at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, Nashville.
