TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has decided to participate in the Trump-backed Board of Peace, which calls for nations to contribute US$1 billion or Rp16.7 trillion to become permanent members. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the funding will likely be supported by the State Budget if Indonesia opts to make the contribution.

According to Purbaya, the government has yet to discuss in detail where the funding for the Board of Peace is sourced. "We have not discussed that," said Purbaya at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Currently, the Ministry of Finance is waiting for a mandate from President Prabowo Subianto to allocate the funds. Purbaya mentioned that he will set aside a budget for the Board of Peace if requested by the head of state.

"I believe the majority will come from the State Budget," he said, despite no decision has been made regarding the voluntary contribution to Trump's peace board.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono had previously explained that the contribution of US$1 billion or Rp16.7 trillion for the Board of Peace is voluntary, and not a membership fee. According to him, it would be used for the reconstruction of Gaza

"All invited nations are entitled to become members for 3 years," he said. "So, for example, if they participate with US$1 billion, they will become permanent members."

Sugiono also clarified Indonesia's stance regarding Palestine, assuring that Indonesia supports its independence within the framework of a two-state solution to resolve the conflict with Israel.

"Of course, the compass remains at a 'two-state solution'. Indonesia still desires the independence and sovereignty of Palestine," he added. "Therefore, there must be tactical steps that need to be taken," he continued.
