TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Singapore has retained its record as the least corrupt country in the Asia Pacific region in, and the overall third least corrupt nation in the world.
According to Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), Singapore has been in the top 3 for two consecutive years, maintaining its score of 84 points.
The Southeast Asian city-state previously stayed inside the top 5 circle, by being ranked fifth in 2022 and 2023, fourth in 2019 and 2021, and rising to third place in 2024, 2018 and 2020.
The highest score that Singapore achieved was 87 points in 2012, as it was measured on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean), making Singapore superior within Asia.
On Tuesday, February 10, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) said in a press release that Singapore’s corruption situation was under tight control, with a low number of cases in public sector corruption.
Singapore’s performance in 2025 TI-CPI was supported by effective enforcement, robust legislations and a society that is aware and united by a shared commitment to integrity.
In order for Singapore to sustain its reputation as a "clean and corrupt-free nation," the country must uphold its zero-tolerance towards corruption, according to CPIB, as quoted from CNA.
The bureau also mentioned that Singapore also scores highly in other index rankings. The first being second place out of 143 countries in the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2025, marking Singapore as the first in Asia for absence of corruption.
Secondly, the Political and Economic Risk Consultancy’s 2025 places Singapore in the top ranking out of 16 economies in Asia, US and Australia.
Here is the list of least corrupt countries, according to Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index:
- Denmark (score of 89)
- Finland (score of 88)
- Singapore (score of 84)
- New Zealand, Norway (tied with score of 81)
- Sweden, Switzerland (tied with score of 80)
- Netherlands, Luxembourg (tied with score of 78)
- Germany, Iceland (tied with score of 77)
