Singapore Botanic Gardens Celebrates Milestones with Festive Light Shows

13 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Singapore Botanic Gardens is holding nightly light show to honor several national and institutional milestones. These include the 10th anniversary of the botanic gardens' designation as Singapore's first and only UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 150th anniversary of the Singapore Herbarium and Botany Library, the 30th anniversary of the National Orchid Garden, and Singapore's 60th independence day.

As reported by Time Out, the celebration features a light show from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. from July 18 to August 10, 2205, transforming the botanical garden into an enchanted realm after dark. Visitors can expect beautiful light installations spread across iconic corners of the gardens, from the shining Tanglin Gate and twinkling Symphony Stage to the dimly lit Swan Lake that resembles a fairy tale setting.

The event also includes illuminated features at the Orchid Plaza Clock Tower and the Palm Court near the Nassim Visitor Centre. To further indulge the senses, the light shows are set to orchestral pieces by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO).

As part of the national SG60 festivities, the Singapore Botanic Gardens will host a series of events, including the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival and the SGF Orchid Show, taking place from July 19 to 27, 2025. Accompanying the dazzling orchid exhibitions, the festival also features live music performances, outdoor film screenings, guided tours, and hands-on workshops.

Diverse Exhibitions at Singapore Botanic Garden

The Singapore Botanic Gardens is holding themed science practical labs where visitors can try DNA extractions using bananas and cell staining with onion roots. This presents a rare opportunity to access the research efforts behind the conservation work at the Botanic Gardens.

According to Travel and Leisure Asia, visitors can also explore rotating and permanent exhibitions throughout the Botanic Gardens all year round. These include 'Planting Memories' (CDL Green Gallery and others), 'Roots of Knowledge' (Botany and Horticulture Library), and 'Botanical Art Worldwide 2025 Singapore' (Botanical Art Gallery).

About Singapore Botanic Gardens

Established in 1859, the 82-hectare Singapore Botanic Gardens showcases over 1,000 species and 2,000 hybrid orchids, a mist house, and the Jacob Ballas Children's Garden.

Located on the outskirts of the Orchard Road shopping district, visitors can access the garden via the Botanic Gardens MRT Station (CC19/DT9), an underground interchange station on the Circle Line (CCL) and Downtown Line (DTL).

The best times to visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens are during the months of July to October, when the weather is comfortable with minimal rain. The park tends to be quite crowded on weekends, so it's advisable to visit earlier on weekends. Additionally, it's best to avoid the rainy months from January to March.
