TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is expected to sign a reciprocal trade tariff agreement between Indonesia and the United States during his upcoming visit to Washington on February 19, 2026.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the signing is planned to take place alongside Prabowo’s attendance at the inaugural Leaders’ Meeting of the Board of Peace, an initiative launched by US President Donald Trump.
“The President is scheduled to attend the event on the 19th, and around that time there are plans to sign the ART, or reciprocal tariff agreement,” Airlangga said after a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 11.
Airlangga declined to disclose the final tariff rate, saying discussions are still being finalized.
“We have already reduced it from 32 percent to 19 percent. There are other matters that we are still finalizing until everything is 100 percent complete,” he said.
In early April 2025, the United States imposed a 32 percent import tariff on certain Indonesian goods. Following months of negotiations, President Trump announced in July 2025 that the reciprocal tariff rate for Indonesia would be lowered to 19 percent.
The negotiations have covered a range of issues, including market access for US products, non-tariff barriers, the digital economy, economic security, as well as trade and investment cooperation.
Indonesia formally joined the Board of Peace initiative on January 22, 2026. President Prabowo signed the Charter of Peace during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The White House is set to host the first Leaders’ Meeting of the Board of Peace on February 19 at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington. The initiative aims to advance the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire and mobilize funding for the reconstruction of Palestinian territories affected by the conflict.
State Secretary Prasetyo previously confirmed that Prabowo had received an invitation to attend the meeting, although final confirmation of his participation has not yet been announced.
If the President attends, the visit is expected to also serve as an opportunity to formalize the reciprocal tariff agreement.
“We hope both objectives can be achieved,” Prasetyo said.
