Prabowo Calls for Concrete Actions for Palestine, Not Resolutions

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In front of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto affirmed support for the independence of Palestine. Prabowo opened the 19th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) at the House of Representatives (DPR RI) building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

In his speech before the delegations, Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia has never wavered in its support for Palestinian independence. He recounted his commitment to support Palestine when speaking before the Turkish parliament in Ankara.

According to Prabowo, the world organization should no longer discuss resolutions for Palestine. Because, Palestine urgently needs support for its independence.

"I repeat here at this forum, it is time for us not to just discuss, not to draft resolutions again, the people of Palestine have been victims for too long, the people of Palestine need support, concrete actions," Prabowo said.

Prabowo called on all Islamic countries to unite in supporting Palestinian independence. He stated that Islamic countries represent a quarter of the world's population. Therefore, he asked Islamic countries to set aside their differences.

"Let's overcome rivalries among us, let's look at the important thing, which is the safety of humanity, let's look at the future of the Islamic civilization," he said.

The President reminded participants that Islam once led the world in civilization, science, and technology. He said Islamic countries must regain leadership in science and technology for the welfare of their respective peoples.

"We cannot be strong if our people are poor. There is no strong poor country. Therefore, we must escape from poverty, we must strive to lift our people out of poverty, and for that, a clean government is needed. Only with a clean government can we achieve prosperity," he said.

Prabowo also warned OIC member countries not to become weak nations. Because OIC cannot help Palestine if Islamic countries are weak.

"If we are weak, we cannot help Palestine. Even our voices will not be heard," Prabowo said.

Prabowo urged Islamic countries to introspect whether each of them has successfully resolved their internal issues. According to him, it is not possible to help struggling people if they cannot take care of their own nations.

He reminded that though Islamic countries desire peace, there will always be parties that do not want peace if Islamic countries are weak.

"There may be parties that see if we are weak, we can be colonized again. We can be ordered around as a pawn nation, a slave nation, a servant nation," Prabowo said.
