TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police have formed a joint team to handle the case of the acid attack against the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus. The joint team consists of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Police, the General Crime Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, and the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Department.
"As a form of the seriousness of the Indonesian National Police in handling this case, we have formed a joint team to uncover the case," said the Director of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police General Crime Investigation Directorate, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, to journalists at his office on Monday, March 16, 2026.
Iman stated that the police are still trying to identify the perpetrators and trace their whereabouts. In this case, the police have confiscated several pieces of evidence, including 86 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at 86 points, a helmet suspected to belong to the perpetrator, and a container suspected of being used to store chemical liquids.
The evidence belonging to the perpetrator has been handed over to the National Police Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor) for further identification. "Hopefully, the perpetrator's fingerprints and DNA will be found on the helmet in question," said Iman.
In addition to examining the evidence, the police questioned seven witnesses, including residents and police officers who were involved in the initial identification of this case.
Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid by two unknown individuals in the area of Jalan Salemba I, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, March 12, 2026. Andrie suffered burns covering 24 percent of his body as a result of the incident. Due to the incident, he suffered serious injuries all over his body, especially on his right and left hands, face, chest, and eyes.
Andrie is still undergoing treatment handled by six different specialist doctors, including ophthalmologists, ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialists, neurologists, orthopedic doctors, thoracic, internal organ, and skin specialists.
KontraS did not find any missing or seized belongings of the victim either during or after the acid attack. The event occurred shortly after Andrie recorded a podcast at the YLBHI Office titled "Remilitarization and Judicial Review in Indonesia," which was completed at around 11:00 PM local time.
