TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The spokesperson of the Central Jakarta District Court, Sunoto, claimed that the execution of Jakarta's Sultan Hotel has set a record in the country's history of civil cases. The total value of the execution object reaches Rp28.9 trillion.

"This is the largest and most expensive civil execution in history," said Sunoto on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

The execution of the land and buildings of the Sultan Hotel in the Gelora Bung Karno complex took place on Thursday, June 18, 2026. According to Sunoto, the seizure process was carried out in accordance with the applicable Civil Procedure Law.

"Through this execution, assets worth more than Rp28.9 trillion can finally return to the list of state assets," said Sunoto in his written statement.

The Clerk of the Central Jakarta District Court, Ahyar Parmika, said the execution process was involuntary since the party concerned "still refuses to voluntarily vacate the land and buildings."

According to Ahyar, the execution was carried out without the presence of PT Indobuildco, the operator of Sultan Hotel. "Without the presence of the Execution Defendant or the attorney of the Execution Defendant," said Ahyar in a press conference after the execution process.

Ahyar stated that the entire execution process was based on Assignment Letter Number 181/KPN.W10-U1/ST.KP7.1/VI/2026 dated June 17, 2026 from the Chair of the Central Jakarta District Court. The letter outlined the execution order to vacate the land of ex-HGB No. 26 and No. 27, which are part of the Sultan Hotel area.

The execution process did not go smoothly, as protesters seemed to throw fist-sized stones at authorities during the court-sanctioned eviction. Meanwhile, several police officers were seen taking cover behind armored vehicles to avoid the stone attacks.

The police then responded by firing water cannons at the crowd. Hundreds of people then ran and entered the area inside the hotel, where police officers chased and arrested some of them.
