TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto worked from his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Friday, June 19, 2026. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the President is adhering to the weekly work-from-home or WFH policy currently applicable to civil servants.
The work-from-home policy for civil servants has been implemented since April this year as part of government efforts to curb fuel consumption. Prasetyo noted, "It happens to be Friday, and the work-from-home policy has not been revoked yet, so the President is working from home."
He joked that the letter "H" in the WFH acronym could stand for Hambalang. "WFH, the 'H' can be replaced with Hambalang," said the Gerindra Party politician.
According to him, Prabowo has been receiving several guests at his residence since Friday morning. Later in the afternoon, the President welcomed the Minister of Youth and Sports and Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Chairperson Erick Thohir and the men's national football team coach, John Herdman.
Starting April 1, 2026, the government mandated a once-a-week work-from-home routine for civil servants. The Friday WFH policy is a strategic measure to conserve fuel amid volatile global oil prices triggered by the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran in the Middle East.
Friday was selected for the remote work scheme because administrative activities on that day are generally less dense than earlier in the week. However, several sectors remain exempt from the civil servant WFH policy. Workers in essential public services, including healthcare, security, and sanitation, must continue to work from their respective offices.
The remote work mandate also does not apply to other strategic industries such as manufacturing, energy, water utilities, staple food and beverage production, trade, transportation, logistics, and finance.
In May 2026, the government announced an extension of the WFH policy. Civil servants will continue to work from home every Friday until at least July 2026.
At the time, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto explained that the extension was necessary as the Middle East crisis showed no signs of abating. "In a situation like the current one, where the war has not ended, we will continue the work-from-home policy for the next two months," he said following a limited cabinet meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
