TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian peacekeepers are joining the forces from various other countries to de-escalate the Palestine-israel conflict, said Prasetyo Hadi, the country's Minister of State Secretary. Indonesia is preparing to deploy about 8,000 military personnel to Gaza.
According to Prasetyo, the international peacekeeping force is intended to help mitigate the conflict with Israel and ensure humanitarian aid reaches the Palestinian people.
"At least, we hope this will bring down the conflict escalation in Gaza to alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters," Prasetyo said at Gambir Station, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The minister said the plan to deploy troops to Gaza reflects Indonesia's commitment to Palestinian independence.
The government is currently discussing the technicalities of the deployment, Prasetyo said, but there is no set schedule on when the soldiers will be shipped out.
Prasetyo said the decision awaits the green light from the Gaza Strip. "We are just preparing ourselves. If an agreement is reached at any time and we need to send peacekeeping forces, it will certainly be a commitment that we will fulfill," said the Gerindra Party politician.
Prasetyo estimated that there will be 20,000 troops from various countries joining the peacekeeping forces. Indonesia, he said, is ready to contribute around 8,000 personnel.
Indonesia also committed to helping Palestinians through the Board of Peace. "That's why we, Indonesia, along with seven other Muslim countries, decided to join the Board of Peace," he said.
Meanwhile, Chair of House Commission I, Utut Adianto, previously cautioned the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) against sending too many troops to join the peacekeeping mission in Gaza, Palestine. "I think it's unnecessary for it to be as large as 20,000 troops," he said on Tuesday.
According to him, Gaza is smaller than Jakarta, with only approximately 363 square kilometers to Jakarta's 661 square kilometers.
Utut conceded that the Ministry of Defense has mature considerations for deploying troops to the conflict area but urged Indonesia to deploy "the best troops, ready for all weather, all situations."
Utut also claimed the deployment aligns with Indonesia's Constitution regarding efforts to maintain world order and peace. Moreover, he said that all political parties in Indonesia agree that Palestine has the right to independence and sovereignty.
