TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, announced that the immediate ceasefire between Iran and the US applies "everywhere including Lebanon."
In a statement on X, the prime minister said the ceasefire has taken effect immediately.
"I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026, to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes," Sharif said.
The prime minister said both parties had demonstrated "remarkable wisdom and understanding" and voiced hope that the upcoming "Islamabad Talks" would lead to sustainable peace.
Netanyahu Excludes Lebanon in Iran Ceasefire
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has backed the US decision to suspend attacks on Iran for two weeks, but said the truce "does not include Lebanon."
In a statement on Wednesday, Netanyahu said that Israel supports US President Donald Trump's efforts to ensure that "Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile and terror threat to America, Israel, Iran’s Arab neighbors and the world.”
The Israeli military also continued to Iran and Lebanon despite the ceasefire. Israel focused the attacks on southern parts of the country, according to Lebanon's National News Agency, bombing Srifa in the Tyre region while issuing an evacuation notice for a building nearby.
Meanwhile, Iran has fired several ballistic missile salvos at Israel since the ceasefire was reported to take effect.
A White House official told CNN late Tuesday that Israel is part of the two-week ceasefire with Iran announced by US President Donald Trump.
This announcement came just an hour and a half before the deadline set by Trump for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face an increased military onslaught on civilian infrastructure.
Israel has also agreed to suspend its bombing campaign while negotiations continue, the official said.
CNN reported that Israeli officials were disappointed with the temporary ceasefire agreement reached by the US with Iran, according to an Israeli source familiar with the matter.
Nevertheless, the source said that Israel will comply with the ceasefire, following Trump's directives.
But Israel does so reluctantly. "Israel still has more targets on its list and more objectives to be achieved through military action in Iran," the source said.
When asked by CNN in mid-March, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to answer whether Israel would stop its attacks on Iran if Trump achieves a ceasefire.
But he acknowledged that Trump is a "leader" and that he is "his ally."
"Ultimately, President Trump makes his own decisions, and do I respect it? Yes, I respect it," Netanyahu told CNN during the March 18 press conference.
