TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has released a special tax policy, Value Added Tax borne by the government (VAT DTP), specifically for flight tickets. This regulation exempts the prices of domestic economy class flight tickets from VAT during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

This policy is stipulated in Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) number 4 of 2026, which was released on February 6. According to this regulation, the government fully covers the VAT for domestic commercial air transportation in economy class.

"The VAT due borne by the government as referred to in paragraph (3) is the VAT due on the base fare and fuel surcharge," as written in article 2 of the PMK, quoted on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

In the considerations section, it is mentioned that this economic incentive aims to preserve the public's purchasing power and stimulate the national economy. This relief will be provided during the Eid al-Fitr holiday of 1447 Hijri.

VAT exemption will be given for ticket purchases from February 10, 2026, until March 29, 2026. In addition, it will be granted for flights from March 14 to 29, 2026.

During the Eid al-Fitr holiday period, the government allocates a total of Rp911 billion for transportation discounts, including train tickets, sea transportation, and flights. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the government's policy encourages a discount of 17-18 percent for economy class domestic flights. This discount on air transportation fares is allocated for 3.3 million passengers.

Furthermore, discounts of 30 percent off the ticket price are provided for travel between March 14 and 29, 2026. The train ticket discount is offered by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and targets 1.2 million passengers.

A 30 percent discount on sea transportation tickets from the base fare is also applicable from March 11 to April 5, 2026. The price reduction will only be given to 445,000 passengers.

As for the ASDP ferry tickets, a 100 percent discount on port services will be provided from March 12 to 31, 2026. This discount will be given to 945,000 vehicle units and 2.4 million passengers.
