TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National University (UNAS) is reportedly planning to award Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon with the title of Honorary Professor at the National University, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The conferment has resulted in the suspension of academic and non-academic activities for the university community.

This information was conveyed in an announcement letter issued by the Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Culture at UNAS. The letter was issued on January 22, 2026, signed by the Vice Rector for General Administration, Finance, and Human Resources of the National University, Suryono Efendi.

This information was confirmed by a member of the UNAS Communication Science Student Association, Ayesha Putri. "That's correct. We have already confirmed the news with our lecturers," she said when contacted on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

In the announcement letter, UNAS will hold an Open Senate Session and a Cultural Oration entitled "Indonesian Cultural Megadiversity as the Center of World Civilization", to be delivered by Fadli Zon.

Following the event, all activities at UNAS will resume as normal on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Tempo has tried to contact the Manager of the Marketing and Public Relations Technical Implementation Unit (UPT MPR) Marsudi and the UNAS Public Relations contact person through Instagram. The message sent to Marsudi was not delivered, and UNAS' Public Relations has not yet responded.

The official UNAS account, @unas1949, posted a video on Instagram showing Fadli Zon receiving the Honorary Professor title at UNAS. Fadli appeared wearing a gown. The video caption stated: "The conferment of the honorary professor (Prof. (HON)) title of the National University to Fadli Zon." Fadli has not yet responded to Tempo's messages regarding this matter.
