TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has not ruled out reinstating the mining permit for the Martabe gold mine in North Sumatra, currently managed by PT Agincourt Resources.
Any reinstatement, he emphasized, would depend on the company being cleared of violations.
The permit had been targeted for revocation following a recommendation from the Forest Zone Enforcement Task Force (PKH).
President Prabowo Subianto has ordered a reassessment of alleged violations at the Martabe site. Speaking at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Bahlil said, “If there are no violations, we must restore the investors’ rights. And if violations are confirmed, appropriate sanctions will follow.”
Bahlil highlighted that the review aims to maintain investor confidence, stimulate economic growth in Sumatra, and provide legal certainty.
“We must be fair and ensure clarity. If they are not at fault, we should restore everything that is rightfully theirs,” he added.
The Ministry of ESDM is currently assessing and restructuring mining practices at Martabe, while Minister of Environment and Forestry Hanif Faisol Nurofiq is also reviewing the permit. Bahlil expressed optimism, saying, “Hopefully, it will be completed soon, and I have a feeling that everything will be fine.”
Although the government announced in January 2026 the revocation of several permits in the plantation and mining sectors, including Agincourt’s Martabe mine, Bahlil clarified that the Ministry of ESDM has not yet carried out any administrative revocation.
The January announcement was part of a broader action targeting 28 companies linked to ecological damage in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
