TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - International travel in Malaysia will become more efficient with the Malaysians Accessing the National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe). This QR code-based immigration inspection system will be implemented at major international airports starting from March 1, 2026, as part of the effort to streamline border control and reduce waiting time.
As reported by The Star, Malaysia is currently integrating the MyNIISe mobile app with existing systems, including MyBorderPass, at Terminals 1 and 2 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, before the national launch. According to this new arrangement, passengers are required to scan the MyNIISe QR code before passing through electronic immigration gates, or e-gates.
MyNIISe is Malaysia's new integrated immigration system, replacing the decades-old myIMMS. The system is designed to enhance border security while allowing faster, more transparent, and robust cross-border movements as a long-term national solution, as reported by the Malay Mail.
Authorities stated that this initiative aims to reduce waiting time, improve immigration process efficiency, and provide a faster, safer, and more comfortable experience for travelers.
Installed in Five International Airports
The MyNIISe QR code system will be installed at 46 e-gates in five major international airports, namely Terminals 1 and 2 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Bayan Lepas International Airport, Kota Kinabalu International Airport, and Kuching International Airport.
Malaysian citizens who are already using MyNIISe can continue using the current login method until February 28, before a full transition to MyDigital ID. Despite the new system, travelers will still have alternative options, including the MyBorderPass app, passport scanning in MyNIISe and existing electronic gates, as well as manual immigration counters.
To use this QR code, foreign users using MyNIISe for the first time in Malaysia must create an account in the MyNIISe app available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Registration involves several steps, such as scanning the passport photo page and biometric chip data using Near Field Communication (NFC) and taking a selfie for identity verification.
