TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Several areas in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, were inundated by floods after heavy rain fell from early Friday, January 30, 2026. Data from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) showed that flooding affected 39 neighborhood units (RT) across the city.
BPBD Jakarta’s Head of the Data and Information Center, Mohamad Yohan, said the floods hit residential areas as well as three road sections in South and North Jakarta.
“The flooding was caused by high rainfall combined with river overflows,” Yohan said in a written statement on Friday.
He added that BPBD Jakarta has deployed personnel to monitor flood conditions in all affected areas. The agency is also coordinating with related institutions, including the Water Resources Agency, the Highways Agency, and the Fire and Rescue Agency, to speed up drainage efforts.
“The goal is to quickly reduce the floodwaters,” Yohan said.
Based on BPBD data recorded at 4:00 a.m. on Friday, flooding was reported in the following areas:
1. North Jakarta
Cilincing Sub-district: 1 RT
Marunda Sub-district: 1 RT
Water level: 20–30 centimeters
Cause: High rainfall and overflow of the Nagrak River
2. West Jakarta
Kedaung Kali Angke Sub-district: 4 RT
Rawa Buaya Sub-district: 1 RT
South Kembangan Sub-district: 3 RT
Water level: 20–30 centimeters
Cause: High rainfall and overflow of the Mookervaart River
3. South Jakarta
Pejaten Timur Sub-district: 4 RT
Rawajati Sub-district: 2 RT
Tanjung Barat Sub-district: 2 RT
Water level: 100–300 centimeters
Cause: High rainfall and overflow of the Ciliwung River
4. East Jakarta
Rawa Terate Sub-district: 1 RT
Bidara Cina Sub-district: 4 RT
Kampung Melayu Sub-district: 4 RT
Cawang Sub-district: 9 RT
Cililitan Sub-district: 2 RT
Balekambang Sub-district: 1 RT
Water level: 50–250 centimeters
Cause: High rainfall and overflow of the Ciliwung River

Water level: 15 centimetersPulo Raya IV Street, Petogogan, South Jakarta

Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced the extension of the work-from-home (WFH) and distance learning policies until February 1.
The decision followed a forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), which warned that heavy rainfall is expected to continue in Jakarta over the next few days.
“I have decided that distance learning and WFH will be extended until February 1,” Pramono said on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
